Alternative methods of divorce:

Pro Se -
This is a commonly used, do-it-yourself method in which the spouses work out the details of a settlement together without professional help. It works best if the spouses are able to talk together well, if there are no children, if they have similar income levels, and if there are only simple property issues.

Mediation -
There is a single mediator who helps people work out the details. Sometimes having a trained objective professional can get them past the barriers.

Traditional Divorce -
Each party hires an attorney and they work out the details, with the possibility of bringing a judge in to make the final decision.

Collaborative Divorce -
A team of professionals help the divorcing couple deal with coparenting issues and financial issues, legal issues, and emotional issues. Each person has an attorney and a coach. They sign a contract not to use the court process to settle the dispute.
